This series of paintings addresses how we look at the landscape through different frames and how that modifies our ways of reading it.  When the image is not contained within the tradition rectilinear format,  space and light become ambivalent. The viewers' engagement is directed more to the painting  (both the materiality of paint and the gestural act: the object and the objective) rather than towards the purposeful depiction of a recognizable place.

These paintings evolved during a period of moving from one garden in Vancouver to another in Victoria.
