Langara College, Department of Fraser River Studies invited me to join them on a raft run down the Fraser River. To move through the canyon from river level was an incredible experience. I made small notations and drawings and took supplementary photographs (not easy to draw when going through Hell's Gate). I was compelled to capture my sense of awe and humility, which translated into larger scale works. The relationship between representational and abstract was pivotal in developing these works.
